From Self-Taught Sewist to the Teacher She Once Needed
“It takes construction details that are usually hidden on the inside and turns them into beautiful design features on the outside.”
Chapter 1 of 4
How did your love for sewing begin?
My love for sewing actually began when I was a teenager in Venezuela. One day at school, I saw someone sketching fashion designs. I remember asking what they were doing, and they told me they were designing clothes. At the time, I had no idea that fashion design was something you could study or even do as a career, but that moment stayed with me.
Later, I went to university and studied Business Administration and Computer Science, but the desire to learn how to make my own clothes never disappeared. In Venezuela, it wasn’t always easy to find beautiful clothes at affordable prices, so I decided I wanted to learn to sew them myself.
I taught myself through YouTube, following amazing creators from Spain, France, and the United States. I would search for every technique I needed and learn one step at a time. Looking back, I think that’s also where my love for creating videos comes from—I genuinely enjoy learning and sharing what I discover.
As I became more confident with sewing, I completely fell in love with it. I realized I could create almost anything I imagined. Sewing didn’t just give me a creative outlet; it also taught me patience, discipline, responsibility, and how to manage many details at once. Over time, it shaped me as a person, and today my life revolves around sewing in every way.

What was your first project using a Rosys Patterns pattern, and how was the experience?
The first Rosys Patterns design I made was the Paloma Dress, which I purchased on Etsy. I had been seeing it everywhere and absolutely loved the design, so I knew I had to make it.
One of the things that impressed me the most was how accessible the pattern is. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow, making it suitable for sewists of different skill levels. The sizing also worked really well for me, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
What I love most about the Paloma Dress is its originality. It takes construction details that are usually hidden on the inside and turns them into beautiful design features on the outside. Even the darts become a decorative element, which I thought was such a creative touch. It’s a very unique pattern, yet surprisingly straightforward to sew.
So far, I haven’t made many Rosys Patterns designs, but I already have several more sitting in my cart, and I’m sure they’ll be featured in my upcoming YouTube videos. I usually choose patterns that truly inspire me, and the Paloma Dress was definitely one of those projects.

How has sewing impacted your life?
Sewing has impacted my life in every possible way. It’s much more than a hobby—it has become the center of my life. Even though I studied Business Administration and Computer Science, sewing has always been the career I chose. I also create YouTube videos as a hobby because I genuinely enjoy sharing what I learn with others.
For me, sewing is a true flow state. When I sit down at my sewing machine, the rest of the world disappears. It allows me to focus completely, and it has become a form of therapy that brings me peace and joy. I’ve been sewing almost every single day since I was 25, and I still look forward to it every time.
Over the years, I’ve learned not only through YouTube but also by working in bridal ateliers in Spain, where I had the opportunity to learn traditional couture techniques from incredibly talented seamstresses. One of the things I admire most is how generous they were with their knowledge. They were always happy to teach anyone who genuinely wanted to learn, and that has inspired the way I teach today.
I now have my own sewing studio, where I teach others. My students often tell me I’m the best teacher they’ve had, and I think that’s because I remember exactly what it felt like to learn on my own. Before I ever studied Fashion Design, I made my first collection simply by watching YouTube tutorials, so I understand the challenges beginners face.
More than anything, sewing has made me a person who believes that if I’m willing to learn and put in the work, I can achieve almost anything. It has taught me patience, problem-solving, creativity, discipline, and confidence—skills that have shaped not only my sewing, but every aspect of my life.

What are some of your favorite projects or lessons you’ve learned along the way?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned through sewing is that it requires patience. It takes time, dedication, and consistency. It’s not something you master overnight, and I think that’s one of the reasons it’s such a rewarding hobby. The feeling of finishing a garment after putting so much care and effort into it is incredibly satisfying.
But sewing has taught me much more than technical skills. It has taught me patience, discipline, organization, responsibility, and perseverance. Those are qualities that extend far beyond the sewing room—they’ve shaped the way I approach life. When you learn to slow down, solve problems, and trust the process while making a garment, you naturally begin to approach other challenges in life the same way.
As for my favorite projects, I love recreating designer pieces. Whenever I see a garment on a runway, on someone walking down the street, or even in a photo on Pinterest, I immediately start wondering, How was this made? If it’s something I love but can’t buy, I challenge myself to recreate it. Those projects are always the most exciting because they push me to think creatively, improve my pattern-making skills, and learn new techniques. Every single one of them has taught me something new, and that’s what keeps sewing exciting after all these years.
