When Sewing Became Her Rest: Estefania’s Story
Chapter 1 of 5
How it began
My grandmother was a dressmaker. She made clothes for me and my siblings when we were little, and I always loved watching her sew. When I became pregnant with my first daughter, I loved dresses, but they were very expensive. So I started sewing for my baby and kept going as she grew. I’ve made about 80% of her clothes myself. As teenagers, they still tease me because they no longer want princess dresses, so I started sewing things for myself. Even now, when they see something I’ve made, they give me those little looks, hoping I’ll make one for them too 🤭

Her Rosys make
The first pattern I chose was Zoya. Honestly, I didn’t choose it because it was my favorite, but because it seemed easy to adjust the size. I didn’t really need instructions, though I joined their live session, and by that afternoon I had the dress finished. Then I chose the mini wrap dress. I’d spent a long time looking for one that would fit well, have simple lines, and make me fall in love with it. Since I already had some sewing knowledge from teaching myself, I didn’t need much explanation. Whenever I did have a question, it was answered privately, which gave me peace of mind.

What it gave her
Sewing has become a form of escape for me. It brings me happiness. When people around me see me stressed and sewing, they tell me to rest because they don’t understand that sewing is my rest, my way to switch off, and a little time for myself ☺️

Her Rosys make
Listing just one project is difficult. There’s something satisfying about making something from scratch and giving each garment its own unique, special character. Even if some turned out better than others, they’re all important to me. Right now, my favorite is the wrap dress. I’m absolutely in love with it 🤭

Her advice
Simply put, if something makes you happy, do it. For me, with sewing, the result isn’t the only thing that matters. Enjoying the process is wonderful too. I may have made mistakes choosing fabricsI’ve stopped sewing at times because stripes didn’t line up—but in the end, when the finished piece is in my wardrobe, the smile it brings me has no price. When someone asks where I bought it, that’s one of the best feelings 🥰
